Justin Lapoint has been drawing since he was 3 years old, some time in 1950; he began creating comics in 1956. He graduated from Wilmington College in Ohio where he met his future wife Rachel. They were married in 1970 and Justin received his Masters of Ministry degree from the Earlham School of Religion in 1972.
While serving as a parish minister, Justin decided to pursue his love of cartooning by enrolling at Art Instruction Schools in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 1981 he received a certificate in Basic Art from AI. After his two children, John and Alice, were born, Justin began creating comics again.
Retiring from the parish ministry in 2004, Justin devoted more time learning how to create comics in the 21st century. Justin and his son John joined the North Carolina Web Comic Coffee Clatch where they learned skills and techniques from other creators.
John and Justin are co-creators of the Web Comic “Animal Town Confidential” featured on The Duck. “ATC” is a mystery comic featuring anthropomorphic animals. The hero is Inspector Dog, Animal Town’s ace detective. Justin creates stories, pencils, and inks and John provides graphic design. Justin’s daughter Alice is responsible for some of the inks. Justin and John have been assisted by Sarah Madigan, a graphic design student at James Sprunt Community College where Justin is an instructor in Religion.
