2019 illogiCon Committee
Kate Koballa is a Durham native and a lifelong fan of nerd culture. She’s thrilled to be serving as chair for her eighth IllogiCon. She studied remix culture and zombie studies in graduate school and fills much of her free time working at conventions. Her Harry Potter house is Hufflepuff, her favorite karaoke song is “What’s Up” by 4 Non Blondes, and she has seen “Love Actually” over 100 times. One time, she asked Alan Rickman for a hug and he smirked at her and shook her hand instead. She loves coffee, podcasts, and petting dogs.
Lacy Banner – Vice Chair and ConSuite
Lacy began helping with Illogicion 3 as the consuite cooking mama. With previous years experience working consuite for other cons, she was a super awesome recruit for this con. With many years of experience in food service and a passion for cooking, she hopes to continue to feed attendees with new and creative foods. She and her crew are excited to share their contributions as well, and hope to offer a wonderful experience for everyone that visits the consuite. Don’t hesitate to engage her or her staff in nerdy conversations related to, but not limited to anime, super hero’s, sci-fi, cartoons, video games, and cosplay.
Walter Clark – Treasurer
This is Hilary’s second year as illogiCon’s Communications Lead and now website updater. A devout Ravenclaw and lover of the movie Brazil, she is enjoying the challenge of helping illogicon soar on the interwebs. When not constructing pretty promotional tweets and posts, she likes to climb mountains while listening to sci-fi audiobooks and podcasts or eat new things. If you find her during the con furiously updating our social media, get her to look up from her computer by discussing your thoughts on philosophy or the eventual heat death of the universe.
A self-proclaimed adorable dork, Jenn Ludewig is a supporter of all things cute and adventurous. After graduating from ECU, she moved to Raleigh/Durham. She has volunteered her time at a few conventions and festivals throughout the year for the past 10 years. Her life goals include petting every dog she sees (honestly every animal she sees) and finishing one art project before starting another. She is told she is House Ravenclaw but has too many projects to work on to take the time to find out for real. Her love of imagery in fantasy and science fiction has led her to search the galaxy for amazing things view or to eat (currently banking #7049milesforfood).
Chris Ross – Security
Noted Hufflepuff, Gerty McHenry came to Raleigh for grad school, which she hated. Grad school, that is. Not Raleigh. She stayed, got a job, a house, and a dog, but not necessarily in that order. She is really quite pleased to have been involved with illogiCon since year one and to have watched it grow and change. Other important facts about Gerty include, but are not limited to: she genuinely finds insurance commercials funny, Spock (Mr., not Dr.) is responsible for her history with emotionally unavailable men, and J. Michael Straczynski taught her to love the long game.
Please feel free to find her at con to discuss Star Trek, fan fic, and/or the ecofeminist perspective in the works of Sheri S. Tepper.
Avery Wild – Dealers’ Room
Avery Wild is like a mystery inside an enigma, wrapped in a Christmas Sweater. He wants you to love him exactly as he loves you, because you’ve seen him and you know him, and you had the boat times. Inside him fights a neverending battle between a raven and a snake, as he is both a Ravenclaw and a Slytherin. His hobbies include controlling the universe through pumpkin spice, wondering what things would be like now if Tesla had won the electricity race, and laughing at things no one else finds funny. Ummmmm Baileys.
Corey Spillis – Gaming
Clayton Wick – Operations
Previous Committee Members
Madison “Metricula” Roberts – Programming 2018
Madison stumbled into the first illogiCon and loved it so much that she joined up. A creative nerd at heart, Madison is super into #hustle, #brandsynergy, and #selfpromotion and wants you to know you can stream her nerdy campfire songs for free on her Bandcamp site or catch her as a co-host on the pop culture roundup podcast All in the Reflexes. She’s also a dyed-in-the-wool Hufflepuff who loves eating sandwiches (especially with mayo), playing MMOs, knitting vulva for charity, and wishing her husband’s cat would love her. #Engage with her on Twitter, Twitch, and basically everywhere else as @metricula!
Alexander Barnes – Dealers’ Room 2018
What is a man but a miserable pile of secrets?
